For maximum success in transitioning from prison for a crime-free and productive lifestyle, Health and Behavioral Health services may be needed. Parolee needs cut across categorical programs, disciplines, and roles. They require the development of new formal partnerships and a commitment to connecting parts of the support system that may not be typically aligned.
Cognitive Behavioral Groups (CBT) Cognitive Behavioral Groups consist of the evidenced based cognitive behavioral program. The structured approach includes a written curriculum and there shall be documented regarding what offenders are supposed to learn and what is supposed to change. Success to demonstrate proficiency. Identify theoretical basis for identifying activities which should involve one or more of the following: Cognitive Restructuring, Problem Solving, Social Skills Development, and/or Moral Development. All of the above must be tied to address COMPAS assessment results for the parolee.
Batterer Intervention Services Batterer Intervention Services includes both domestic violence risk assessment/intake and batterer prevention/intervention programming. Both types of services must adhere to Batterer Intervention Standards for the State of Michigan created by the 1998 Governor’s Task Force on Batter Intervention Standards.
General Job Responsibilities: - Provide counseling, instruction, and mentoring for those struggling with social, emotional, and behavioral problems. - Increase achievement by assessing barriers to learning and determining the best instructional strategies to improve learning - Promote wellness and resilience by reinforcing communication and social skills, problem solving, anger management, self-regulation, self-determination, and optimism. - Work With Parolees and Their Families to(1) Identify and address learning and behavior problems that interfere with success (2) Support parolees' social, emotional, and behavioral health (3) Make referrals and help coordinate community support service - Work With Administrators to: (1) Collect and analyze data related to positive improvement, outcomes, and accountability requirements (2) Respond to crises by providing leadership, direct services, and coordination with needed community services (3) Design, implement, and garner support for comprehensive mental health programming - Work With Community Providers to: (1) Coordinate the delivery of services to parolees and their families in and outside of prisons (2) Help parolees transition to and from prison and community learning environments, such as residential treatment or juvenile justice programs (3) Participates as crisis team member and provides crisis intervention for parolee and staff in the advent of sudden illness or injury(4) Makes appropriate assessments and referrals for suspected abuse/neglect as a mandated reporter. Maintains communication with administrators, staff, other prison personnel and families to enhance cooperative action, which will meet the health and safety needs of parolee. (5) Initiates contact with and acts as a liaison between the home, community health agencies and the private medical sector to enhance the health and wellness of the community(6) Maintains confidentiality regarding all health-related issues. (7) Recommends modifications of the prison program for parolees who require accommodations. - In performing the above duties, works collaboratively in a professional community with other therapists, support staff, and others as appropriate, in addressing the needs of parolees, developing effective practices, and developing and implementing best practices. - Actively participates in staff department meetings, assist building efforts to plan, budget, implement, and evaluate the prison's program and to do related work as required. In carrying out these responsibilities, follows prison policy and procedure, standard practices, and approved curriculum, and will actively and positively support the prison vision. - Is constantly observant of the needs and challenges of parolees and promptly engages an administrator or appropriate educational staff, associates when the there is reason to suspect or reasonably believe that a student is at risk or in danger due to such issues as bullying, sexual harassment/misconduct, depression or suicide ideation, or academic failure. The teacher serves as a positive role model for students and practices the behaviors that are expected of parolees.
Must meet regulated licensure and/or state certification requirements.

Qualifications: 3+ years experience is preferred, however new graduates would be considered. Each state has specific requirements regarding licensure and/or certification, if needed.
